The most obvious and also innovative feature that Smart TVs offer is the ability to go online without the need of a laptop or desktop PC.  Built-in WIFI allows your TV to connect directly to the home network.  Users are able to browse the internet, check email and login into social networking accounts such as Facebook and Twitter.

Content on demand

The ability to access the internet provides consumers with wider viewing options.  They are able to access the sites that contain streamable content and catch-up on any shows that they have missed.  Likewise, videos on such sites as Youtube are also available.

Recording

Another feature that you can expect from a Smart LED TV is the ability to record shows without the need of a separate DVD or VHS recorder.  This is because they come supplied with an inbuilt personal video recorder that saves programmes onto a hard drive in digital format.

EPG

The acronym EPG stands for electronic programme guide and allows the user to browse programme listings on screen.  Whilst this feature is available on some TV models that do not boast Smart technology; it comes as standard on Smart TVs.

Smart phone integration

The numerous smart phones on the market, such as Apple’s iPhone and also Android models, provide the option of downloading all manner of applications.  Some of these can be used in conjunction with your Smart TV to make life easier.  It could be that you have an app that allows you to set the TV to record a show whilst you are away from your home.  Or perhaps even one that turns your phone into a remote control as backup for when you can’t find the original – or can’t be bothered to get off your settee and collect it from the coffee table.

Ability to share

The final feature that you can expect for an LED TV is the ability to share your content with other devices situated in the home.  Videos and photos can be displayed on laptops and mobile phones; removing the need to copy files from one device to another.

Japanese company JVC introduced the Dock N-BX3, designed for the iPhone and the iPod, which in combination is also a bedside night table.

JVC N-BX3 has built a 60-watt amplifier, a pair of 8-inch speakers, one 30-watt speaker and built-in FM-radio.

Device has an elegant design, made of wood. Its dimensions are 500h300h110 mm, weight – 20 kg. It should be a docking station, available in black or white, about $525.

By creating a full-fledged computer, hp awarded their offspring touchscreen display. Size, which is 22 inches with a maximum resolution of 1680 × 1050.

Hewlett-Packard as well as Apple had decided not to please the user the system unit. And get him into the monitor, while leaving all the high-grade computer.

For fans of space, this is a great find. They can enjoy fine and on the windowsill.

The smartphone is equipped with a laser projector that creates a virtual keyboard below the display on any surface. Concept LG Finestra was the winner in the contest LG Mobile Design Competition 2011.

We may currently be seeing a similar phenomenon with thermostats. Like the telephones of old, thermostats are regular features in American homes. Most people pay them no attention and few people have thermostats that are far superior or advanced to those owned by anyone else. After all, thermostats are remarkably uniform in their offerings and, despite the addition of digital screens, haven’t altered much in features or in functions over the past couple decades.

A group of former Apple employees hopes to change this. They have founded a company called Nest Labs that makes thermometers intended to do nothing less than transform the way homes and business regulate their temperatures. In doing so, Nest Labs plans to help people save money and the environment – all while using a thermometer that looks more like a smartphone than a traditional temperature-control device.

The company’s thermometer is dark metallic in appearance, circular in shape, and is operated by moving your finger over the touch-screen display. Certainly, it looks and feels like an Apple product. Even so, despite its appearance of complexity, the Nest Lab thermometer is quite simple to operate: the user can select and set an ideal temperature for when they are in the house. At this point the thermometer takes over. It can automatically raise and lower the temperature by detecting patterns of usage and movements of people in the area. It can learn routines over time that can help it select the best temperature. And it can make any changes in a way that best maximizes temperature efficiencies. All this is done with the goal of heating and cooling a building in a way that cuts energy use and utilities bills.

While the Nest Lab thermometer is priced much higher than the traditional device, its manufacturer claims that the cost will be more than offset by utilities savings. Whether consumers respond favorably remains to be seen. But, if they do, it could usher in a new wave of innovation akin to the cellphone boom.
