Suzuki Cervo : Maruti’s answer to Tata Nano

The battle for the small car is getting hotter. Soon after the Tatas stunned the world with a Rs 1 lakh car, Nano, Hyundai stated its intention to come out with a car that could cost less than Rs 2 lakh and hit the road by 2011. And now, auto biggie Maruti-Suzuki too is ready with Its small car. The little car could hit the road, they say, as early as the end of this year or early 2009.

The Suzuki car will come closest to rival Nano. It will sport a Suzuki 660cc engine – as against Nano’s 623cc – and wear a tag of around Rs 1.5 lakh on road (that is, excluding insurance) – a little higher than Nano, which is expected to be Rs 1.25 lakh on road. The car might be called ‘Suzuki Cervo’.

    In its 25th year, will the Maruti 800 fade away, to be relaunched in a new avatar? Now that the Rs 1 lakh car is here, all eyes are trained on the fate of the 800, which has been India’s most popular sub-compact. Sources say that Maruti Suzuki India, though playing a wait and watch game, is preparing to launch a refurbished Maruti 800 version. Though changes to the engine are ruled out, the exterior might get a fresh look. And, some additional features might be thrown in at the current price (Rs 1.97 lakh ex-showroom Delhi) to make customers think twice before opting for cheaper competition……so my question is how cervo can attract rural india against TATA Nano??????

    I cannot simply believe that suzuki-cervo is to be launched as a competetion to NANO.

    The price quoted in Japaneese websites for cervo is in excess of 6 lakhs.
    How will they be able to launch it for less than 2 lakh in India?

    when this car will be launched. hope it will do better than Nano, but still there is a question is this car will be available for Rs.I lac. If it is then it is interesting to see what are its safety features. So far as nano’s concern its safety features is world class.

    Rs. 1 lakh car is no manufacture can make it, cos cost of the material is gone up. and what the customer expect in modern car, can’t be fitted in Rs.1 lakh car.

    SUZUKI in no plans to launch 1 LK car.
    And Even if CERVO gets Launched it wont be under 2L, as when we compare the interior or CERVO and 800 we will ourself understand it wont be under 2L, when 800 is around 2L with so glumsy interior.
