Hewlett-Packard (HP) may finally be ready to unleash its TouchPad tablet upon the world.
HP is hoping that the recently announced launch of the TouchPad on July 1st will hit the ground running.
It’s definitely competitively priced, with the base 16GB Wi-fi model set to sell for $500 and the 32GB version to cost $600 powered by webOS 3.0.
The Wi-Fi-enabled TouchPad will be available in 16GB and 32GB variants, which come with respective price tags of $499.99 USD and $599.99 USD, powered by webOS 3.0.
“What makes HP TouchPad a compelling alternative to competing products is webOS,” enthused HP’s Jon Rubenstein in an official statement.
“Its unmatched features and flexibility will continue to differentiate HP products from the rest of the market for both personal and professional use,” he added. “This is only the beginning of what HP’s scale can do with webOS.”
HP TouchPad Features:
• 9.7-inch display (1024×768)
• 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor
• Front-facing 1.3 mega-pixel camera for video calls
• Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, onboard GPS
• Shoulder weight of just 1.6lb.
• Also has touch-to-share technology, which allows you to share information between WebOS devices simply by touching them together.
HP has also said a more spacious 64GB model will be available. However, it has not yet revealed that particular model’s pricing.
Preorders will begin on June 19, and the WebOS-based tablet will be sold at various retailers, including Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Staples, Sam’s Club, Office Depot, and Amazon.com.
3G version from AT&T is set to follow “later in the summer”
It is expected to arrive in European markets such as France, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom a few days later.
Canadian consumers should have access come mid-July, with those in Australia, Hong Kong, Italy, New Zealand, Singapore and Spain likely to receive it before the close of 2011.
